I don’t know the head official’s name from the North Johnston/Spring Creek game, but his right rotator cuff was probably sore from winding the clock in the second half of the Panthers’ 64-0 Homecoming win on Friday night.

You heard most of it on the JoCo Sports Game of the Week, presented by Gowan Roofing, after we sorted out our gremlins in the live broadcast, and we all had a good time watching North improve to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in Neuse Six action.

Eastern Wayne 52, Princeton 15

In what was the most shocking score line of the week, the Warriors rode a five-passing touchdown night from Izeiah Oates to hand Princeton its first-ever Neuse Six loss.

Austin Lewallen had 149 yards on the ground, and Marty Holland added 84 more, but the Warriors were too much on Friday night.

Fike 59, Smithfield-Selma 0

The Golden Demons got six rushing touchdowns from its offense and a shutout from its defense in an emphatic Quad County 3A win.

The Spartans continue to struggle with consistency, and the search for that elusive first win will have to wait at least one more week.

East Wake 13, West Johnston 6

I’d say that this result from Week 7 surprised me most, but I wrote this last Friday morning:

I like West a lot, but the Wildcats need to be wary of a letdown after Monday’s big win.

Well, it happened. East Wake’s defense was the story in a narrow 13-6 win — a win that throws the Quad County 3A standings into turmoil.

Now, this is a bitter pill for West Johnston. But with games left with Aycock and Hunt — and a win in the bag over Fike — the Wildcats are still very much in control of their own destiny.

C.B. Aycock 35, South Johnston 14

The turnover bug has reared its ugly head during South games on a few occasions this season, and it was back on Friday in a loss in Pikeville.

The Trojans, like, West Johnston, have some opportunities to boost their playoff resume between now and November. But there’s work to be done.

Clayton 13, Southeast Raleigh 6

The Comets avoided the upset bug last week, doing just enough to see off a plucky Southeast Raleigh squad.

With the win, the Comets are perched atop the Greater Neuse 4A standings:

As you can see, they have some company. We’ll get to them in a minute.

The JoCo Sports Game of the Week, presented by Gowan Roofing, is heading to Nixon-Fowler Stadium this week, and I already have game notes from Coach Chadwick.

Quality stuff right there.

Cleveland 47, Fuquay-Varina 0

Usually, Cleveland strives for a run-pass balance in its offensive game plans. But when the ground game churns out 223 yards and four scores on better than six yards a carry, that works well, too.

And that offense generally gets most of the love, but it’s the defense that has had donuts on Monday mornings (I assume) for four weeks running, since they haven’t allowed a point since late August. That’s impressive no matter who’s on the schedule.

South Garner 28, Corinth Holders 3

It sort of feels like the Pirates are doing the cha-cha. One step forward, one step back. The latest movement came with a home loss to the Titans.

It’s pivot point time for Corinth Holders this week with a trip to Fuquay-Varina. A win keeps the postseason very much in play for the Pirates, while a loss makes that calculus much tougher.
