Daniel Turner, a three-sport letter winner at North Johnston, plans to continue his wrestling and academic career at nearby Mount Olive.

“I chose Mt Olive because it feels like home to me,” he said in a press release. “I know many people there and lots of my friends are also on the wrestling team. After not placing at states, I have a huge urge to get better and wrestle in college, and I think Coach Willis will not only make me a better wrestler, but a better person too.”

Turner, the son of Chrystal and Dan Turner, won the NCHSAA MidEast Regional and was the team’s most outstanding wrestler.

“Thank you to my coaches for teaching me and pushing me to be better everyday,” he said. “I would like to thank my family for getting me to this day. To my sisters, Caroline and Emma, thank you for always coming to my games and matches. You two have always been so supportive and I know I can count on you all for anything.

“To my brothers-in-law, Grant and Zach, thank you for showing up and supporting me. You’ve taken me in and I’m glad to finally have brothers. To my parents, Mom and Dad, I can’t even say how much I appreciate everything you have done and still do for me. You’ve always allowed me to chase my dreams and provided for me along my journey.

“From the late nights, early mornings, snack runs and hair braiding, I would not be where I am without you two. Thank you for always being there to support me, win or lose.”
