Thursday was a red-letter day for a couple of area volleyball squads.
Atop the quad
South Johnston finished first in the regular season Quad County 3A standings, and followed that up with a 3-0 win over West Johnston in the Quad County 3A tournament final.
The Trojans (17-5) will await their playoff seeding when the brackets are released on Oct. 20.

Much like South Johnston, Princeton had a sterling run through its regular-season conference schedule, and paid it off Thursday with a win over a county rival in the Neuse 6 Conference Volleyball Tournament.
The Bulldogs (14-6) clipped North Johnston, 3-0, to claim the title. The conference tournament is next week, as you’ll see below:
Meanwhile, in the greater neuse river 4a
Cleveland (21-4) hasn’t lost in a month, and wrapped up a perfect conference slate with a 3-0 win over Clayton on Thursday.
The Rams are the top seed in next week’s conference tournament.
Neuse Charter earns second seed
Neuse Charter School notched a win over Union on Senior Night, and in the process, earned the No. 2 seed in next week’s Carolina 1A Volleyball Tournament.
