While doing a little pregame prep before last week’s Cleveland/Rolesville playoff football game, I ran across this tweet from Mike Holderman, an assistant on the Rolesville staff:
Now, he was talking about his team’s round three win, but after Friday night’s 49-6 romp over Cleveland, his point rings even more true.
It was a night of all the wrong kinds of landmarks for Cleveland. The 32-6 halftime deficit was largest since the Rams trailed Cardinal Gibbons, 36-0, during its last regular season loss back in 2019.
Rolesville quarterback Braden Atkinson celebrating signing his NLI with Mercer earlier in the week by carving up the Cleveland defense, finding Anthony Roberts for three touchdown passes.
And the Rolesville defensive line, chock full of highly touted recruits, dominated the line of scrimmage, forcing Cleveland’s Jackson Byrd into a 18-of-45 passing night.
Cleveland’s season ends at 13-1, while Rolesville visits Cardinal Gibbons in the 4A East final on Friday night.
