Well, the first thing we should mention is that Week 6 isn’t done.
North Johnston is hosting Lakewood tonight:
It’s the start of Homecoming Week at North Johnston, and we’ll be there for the Homecoming clash with Spring Creek Friday night at 7. Pregame starts at 6:45 on jocosports.com and jococountry.com — assuming we can manage the technical stuff without our buddy Dave.
Meanwhile, West Johnston has already played its Week 6 game, but will finish up Week 5 tonight against Fike with the two teams tied at 0-0 in the second quarter.
That’s not confusing at all. Let’s dive in, shall we?
Thursday
Clinton 40, Princeton 14
The Darkhorses are anything but in the 2A ranks and are now at 5-0 after taking out the Bulldogs. Princeton, now on a two-game slide, will try to right the ship Friday at Eastern Wayne as it starts Neuse 6 Conference play.
West Johnston 41, Southern Wayne 6
The Wildcats used three touchdowns from its special teams (2) and defense to run past Southern Wayne in Quad County 3A action.
A win tonight against Fike would see the Wildcats climb into a tie for first place in the league standings.

South Johnston played its Mule Days special with Fike, but fell seven yards short of the win when Kalib Brown was knocked down on a last-second catch and run.

Hunt 61, Smithfield-Selma 0
The Spartans fell to 0-5 with a lopsided loss to Hunt. SSS will visit Fike on Friday night in search of win No. 1.

Corinth Holders 21, Willow Spring 7
The JoCo Sports Game of the Week was a soggy one, which made this matchup between the Pirates and Storm particularly amusing metaphorically.
Corinth Holders weathered the elements better, with a punishing ground game and a stifling defense to claim the victory.

The Rams started slowly, but eventually raced away for an easy win in Greater Neuse 4A action.
Clayton 29, Garner 2
It was scorigami territory as the Comets ground out a win against Deron Donald’s new team.
I was joking with Justin before writing this that Johnathan Montague probably had 250 yards rushing. Turns out I was pretty close:
