A couple of trends turned in Week 4, resulting in a mixed bag of results for our local high school football teams.

Princeton made a short trip to Rosewood, where it found its mojo en route to a 48-7 win over the Eagles for win No. 1 of the campaign. Hopefully, you listened to the JoCo Sports Game of the Week, properly aligned by ChiroDuo Mobile Chiropractic, and you already knew that.

Kadyn Haire and Teo Mcphatter each topped 100 yards on the ground, Mcphatter added a touchdown pass and three more on the ground — and all of that was plenty enough for a defense that didn’t allow a touchdown until the game was long decided in the fourth quarter.

A fun side note: The Bulldogs converted all six of their two-point tries (and half of those were inside handoffs to Ethan Teasley).

Princeton returns home to face unbeaten Richlands Friday night at 7.

another first for ala

Remember that mixed bag line back in the opening paragraph? We’re there now.

American Leadership Academy tasted defeat for the first time as a NCHSAA program, falling 52-16 at Roanoke Rapids.

But another first is coming. An honest-to-goodness home game, set for Saturday at 3 p.m. against South Wake.

on the road again

Smithfield-Selma went on the road to face 4A Jordan and left with a 62-0 loss.

The Spartans will seek their first victory in 693 days on Friday when they visit South Johnston for the Quad County 3A opener.

doubling back

As we noted in this space last week, Clayton stayed unbeaten with a win at home against Holly Springs on Thursday.

The Comets open Greater Neuse 4A play at Fuquay-Varina on Friday.
