The JoCo Sports Game of the Week, presented by our friends at ChiroDuo Mobile Chiropractic, was on hand for a bit of history Friday night, as Cleveland fought off a game Southeast Raleigh squad, 39-29, to win its 50th regular-season game in a row.
The Rams ran 12 offensive plays in the first half, and still managed 507 yards of total offense on its way to 8-0. If you want to listen to the game, we have it here. Cleveland visits Garner on Friday night, where it will seek regular-season No. 51.
the wait is over
Smithfield-Selma came into Friday night’s clash with Southern Wayne under the weight of an 18-game losing streak.
The Spartans left with a 61-18 win, the first for Stanley Williams at his alma mater. We strive to be unbiased here at the good ship JNOW Media, but this made me smile.
More streaks
On paper, Friday’s game between Corinth Holders and Clayton figured to be hard fought an entertaining. Unfortunately for the Pirates, it wasn’t played on paper, but on the Nixon-Fowler Stadium field turf, and the result was a 49-0 Comet win.
Clayton is 8-0 for only the second time since 1990, and hosts Willow Spring this week. Meanwhile, Corinth Holders (6-2, 3-2) will look to bounce back at Southeast Raleigh.
Happy Homecoming
North Johnston celebrated Homecoming with an 18-12 win over Goldsboro in Week 8. The win moved the Panthers to 6-2, and 3-0 in the Neuse 6.
Quarterback Kaleb Pone continued his stellar season in the win.
Senior Night is this week, as Eastern Wayne comes to town. This game is for first-place in the Neuse 6. The winner claims at least a share of the crown, and the JoCo Sports Game of the Week will be on hand to take it all in.
One eye on Kenly
Princeton had little difficulty with Spring Creek, and will bring its 4-4 record to this week’s matchup with Beddingfield. On paper, the Bulldogs should be heavy favorites, and they’ll most certainly be keeping an eye on the North/EW result.
There’s a scenario, much like the one that played out last season, where Princeton can grab a share of the Neuse 6 crown with a win this week, and next against North Johnston.
First things first, though. Right?
a thriller in Four oaks
South Johnston played in the game of the night Friday, outgunning Hunt, 27-20, in triple overtime.
The win pushed the Trojans (5-3, 3-2) into a four-way tie for second place in the Quad County 3A. Aycock has effectively clinched the championship, but second and third place are very much up for grabs in the final two weeks.
South visits East Wake in Week 9.
a front-row seat
I mentioned Aycock’s ascension to the conference title, and West Johnston saw it up close and personal Thursday night in a 29-0 Falcon win.
The Wildcats (5-3, 3-2) are in the midst of that logjam we discussed earlier, and they visit Hunt Friday night in a game that should provide a little clarity.
still humming along
A 56-19 drubbing of East Columbus Thursday night pushed American Leadership Academy to 6-1 in its first season as a NCHSAA member. The Patriots visit Wake Prep on Friday.
