Johnston County Basketball Report: Friday, Jan. 3

After a few days off to rest and recharge, a basketball update is probably in order here. North Johnston claimed the men’s and women’s tournament titles at its holiday tournament, while the Cleveland men did the same at theirs.

As conference season gets rolling, let’s have a look at where we stand:

Carolina 1A

Like the Neuse 6, the Carolina 1A isn’t quite to the conference portion of its schedule yet. Neuse Charter entertains Star Christian Academy on Monday and visits Ascend Leadership on Wednesday before beginning league play against North Duplin on Jan. 14.

independent

American Leadership Academy is plying its trade as an independent before joining a conference next season. The Patriots (4-6) will visit Thales Academy Rolesville on Jan. 9.

Judging on records, North Johnston and Goldsboro might be the class of the Neuse 6 this season. We’ll start finding out in a few days.

Tonight’s schedule (county teams)

Greater Neuse River 4A

The Greater Neuse River 4A might be a lot of fun this winter. Willow Spring and South Garner have a couple of wins early, but we’re a long way from the finish line.
