Sometimes when you win, you actually lose. Sometimes when you lose, you actually win. And sometimes, when you win or lose, you actually tie.
That’s where North Johnston finds itself after an 8-3 loss at Princeton Thursday night — in a tie for second place in the Neuse 6 with Goldsboro. Since the teams split a pair of meetings, with each winning on its home field, a tiebreaker game at Smithfield-Selma (neutral site) will be held today at 3 :
Of course, that means that congratulations are in order for the Princeton Bulldogs, who captured the league title.
Carolina 1A
Neuse Charter fell at Hobbton, 2-0, in the final of the Carolina 1A Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament on Thursday.
Our friends at High School OT ($) have the Cougars projected as a 13 seed, hosting North Moore in round one. We’ll know for sure in a few days.
Down to the wire
Speaking of drama, the Greater Neuse River 4A has drama up and down the league standings.

Today’s games
Garner at Southeast Raleigh, 4:30
Clayton at Corinth Holders, 7
South Garner at Cleveland, 7
Willow Spring at Fuquay-Varina, 7
As of this morning, our friends at High School OT project ($) Clayton as one of the last teams in the 4A East playoff field and Garner as one of the first teams out.
So, while Fuquay-Varina and Corinth Holders battle it out for the top spot (they split two meetings this season, by the way), Garner, Cleveland and South Garner are locked in a fight for fourth. Garner has the easiest game on paper today, and a 2-1 record against Cleveland and South Garner in head-to-head play.
Meanwhile, over in the Quad County, West Johnston has sewn up the league title. South Johnston came home third. West is projected as the two seed in the 3A East bracket, while South is currently slotted at 24.
Speaking of champions
South Johnston’s softball team is 19-1 overall, and just completed a perfect run through the Quad County 3A schedule.
Congrats!

And the golf team won top honors in the Quad County 3A as well:
