The opening day of the NCHSAA baseball and softball playoffs allowed a few Johnston County squads to punch tickets to the second round on Friday.

No. 9 Seaforth 7, No. 24 Princeton 0

PITTSBORO — Princeton was held to just three hits as Seaforth ran its record to 18-7 with a 7-0 win. Those were provided by Aston Massey, Cade Gurley and Andrew Allnutt.

No. 10 North Johnston 4, No. 23 Roanoke Rapids 2

KENLY — Zach Peacock and Tyler Coates combined for 6.6 innings of shutout baseball to power the Panthers (18-7) past Roanoke Rapids, 4-2.

Peacock was also 2-for-3 with an RBI while Luke Lomonaco was 1-for-3 with a run driven in.

KENLY — North Johnston built a four-run, first-inning lead and held off Holmes for a 4-3 victory. Victoria Sasser went the distance in the circle, striking out eight while allowing two earned runs and scattering eight hits.

Camden Ford was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Jordan Barnett, Mallori Woodard and Samantha Johnston also drove in runs.

WENDELL — Elizabeth McKenzie didn’t allow an earned run in a complete-game effort, powering the Pirates to an 8-1 win over conference rival Fuquay-Varina.

Ava Marks was 3-for-4 with a RBI, while Pyper Vardy, McKenzie, Lauren Sizemore, Rachel Miura and Liana Giron also drove in runs.

No. 3 Cleveland 10, No. 30 Lumberton 0

CLAYTON — Karsyn Hudacky tossed a complete-game, five-inning no-hitter as the Rams blanked Lumberton, 10-0.

Jazz Linares was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, Gracie Ritchie was 3-for-3 with two RBI and Maddie Murphy was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI for the Rams (17-4).
