Now that it’s officially spring, it’s time to get a little more serious about baseball. Johnston County prep teams have been serious about it for a while, of course, so let’s see how it’s going:

CAP 8A

The Pirates have gotten off to a fast start in CAP 8A play, and they hold a half-game edge over Wakefield — and those teams split a pair of games last week.

greater neuse river 7a

It’s early in the Greater Neuse River 7A slate. Too early, in fact, to draw any meaningful conclusions.

Carolina pines 6a

West Johnston is in the pack chasing Union Pines atop the Carolina Pines, while South Johnston will be looking to snap a four-game skid today against winless Lee County.

three rivers 4A

SouthWest Edgecombe is 3-0 at the quarter-pole in the Three Rivers, but West Craven is only a half-game back.

swine valley 2a/3a

Both Princeton and Rosewood are 3-0 in league play, and both will try to remain so before their first meeting on March 31.

quad county 2A/3A/4A

Nash Central and Bunn are off to perfect starts in league play very early in the schedule.
