Toward the end of the third quarter, Cleveland’s Krisjon Clark ran the same route he’s run hundreds of times. He was facing the same sort of coverage he’s seen his entire football playing life, but the next 45 minutes or so would prove to be anything but ordinary.
Clark suffered a cardiac event on the field, and had to be resuscitated before finally leaving in an ambulance. Cleveland, trailing 10-7 at Southeast Raleigh at the time, left the decision to play on or postpone the game to the players — and those players decided to play on, rallying for a 28-10 win.
Clark was released from the hospital on Sunday, and is recovering.
As for the game, the Rams (8-0, 4-0 Greater Neuse River 7A) couldn’t find much space through the air, throwing for only 36 yards on the night. The ground game more than picked up the slack, as Kaleb Ferrell (187 yards, 3 TD), Porter Bennett (96 yards) and Owen Hulbert (39 yards, TD) combined for 322 yards on 40 carries.
