JoCo Sports Basketball Report: Friday, Feb. 14

It’s Valentine’s Day, if you’re into that sort of thing, and that means that the high school basketball regular season is winding down.

Let’s have a look at how local teams are faring in their respective conferences:

Boys

Greater Neuse River 4A

With the league finale set for tonight, Garner has locked up the regular season crown in the Greater Neuse River 4A.

Clayton entertains Cleveland tonight, but by virtue of the Comets’ regular-season sweep of Willow Spring, they’re already clinched second place. Speaking of Willow Spring, it owns a pair of wins over Cleveland this season, so third place is decided as well.

Quad County 3A

East Wake has sewn up the regular-season crown in the Quad County 3A, while C.B. Aycock, Hunt and Fike are fighting it out for second, third and fourth. Aycock and Fike have game unreported (or perhaps unplayed), which muddies the water for projecting potential seeding.

Neuse 6

Eastern Wayne and Goldsboro meet tomorrow night for the outright Neuse 6 crown. The Warriors will have a share of it either way, while Goldsboro can grab a piece with a win.

Side note: It’s Senior Night at North Johnston tonight.

Carolina 1A

Lakewood has claimed the Carolina 1A crown, and North Duplin is alone in the second spot.

girls

Greater neuse river 4A

The top two spots are pretty much set in the GNR 4A on the ladies’ side. A Willow Springs loss tonight, coupled with a Corinth Holders win would see those two schools swap places, since the Pirates own the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Quad County 3A

Fike and C.B. Aycock are locked in to the top spots, while Hunt and East Wake have a chance to join West Johnston at 8-6, which would make for some fun seeding.

Neuse 6

Goldsboro and North Johnston have removed the drama from the Neuse 6 girls’ race. Third through fifth is still up in the air, though. Goldsboro and Eastern Wayne play tomorrow, while North Johnston/Princeton and Beddingfield/Spring Creek happen tonight.

Carolina 1A

The race is run in the Carolina 1A, with North Duplin edging Neuse Charter for the regular season crown.
