JoCo Sports Baseball Report: April 29

The final week of the regular season is upon us, so it’s time to sort out conference titles and playoff spots.

Let’s start in the Greater Neuse River 4A:

The run in…

Tuesday, April 30

Cleveland at South Garner, 4
Fuquay-Varina at Willow Spring, 4:30
Southeast Raleigh at Garner, 6
Corinth Holders at Clayton, 7

Friday, May 3

Garner at Southeast Raleigh, 4:30
Willow Spring at Fuquay-Varina, 7
South Garner at Cleveland, 7
Clayton at Corinth Holders, 7

Fuquay-Varina has a pretty friendly pair of games with Willow Spring to polish off the slate, while Corinth Holders has a pair of games with third-place Clayton. With a couple of wins, and a spot of help, Cleveland could finish as high as fourth.

Quad County 3A

The run in…

Tuesday, April 30

Southern Wayne at C.B. Aycock, 7
Hunt at Fike, 7
West Johnston at South Johnston, 7
Smithfield-Selma at East Wake, 7

Thursday, May 2

C.B. Aycock at Southern Wayne, 6:30
South Johnston at West Johnston, 7
East Wake at Smithfield-Selma, 7

Friday, May 3

Fike at Hunt, 7

West Johnston has a one-game lead (and the tiebreaker) over C.B. Aycock, so a split against South Johnston will earn it at least a share of the Quad County 3A title (and the No. 1 playoff seed).

A South sweep, however, would pull the Trojans level with the Wildcats, and give them a tiebreaker edge. That scenario, coupled with at least one Aycock loss, would net South a league crown.

It’s coming down to the wire, one way or the other.

Neuse 6

The run in…

Tuesday, April 30

Spring Creek at Goldsboro (DH), 4:30
Beddingfield at Princeton, 6:30
Eastern Wayne at North Johnston, 6:30

Thursday, May 2

Spring Creek at Beddingfield, 6:30
Eastern Wayne at Goldsboro, 6:30
North Johnston at Princeton, 7

A win in either of its last two games will assure Princeton a league title, since it has a two-game lead over North Johnston. Should the Bulldogs stumble on Tuesday, the season finale with North Johnston could be very impactful for league and playoff seeding purposes.

Around the horn

Rosewood claimed the regular-season title in the Carolina 1A, but the conference tournament gets rolling today.
