GREENSBORO — Providence’s Sophie Strugar scattered six hits in a complete-game, 2-1 victory over Corinth Holders in the opening game of the NCHSAA 8A Softball State Championship Series.

Morgan Reason drove in the only run for the Pirates (25-2) in the top of the seventh.

Game 2 of the series is set for later this afternoon.
