It’s been bumpy and weather-ridden, but the Greater Neuse River 4A Men’s Basketball Tournament will finally wrap up tomorrow afternoon at 3 in Garner when Clayton visits the Trojans.
It’s a clash of the league’s top two teams, and Garner won both regular-season meetings by five points. Garner knocked off the Comets, 75-70, on Jan. 3 at Clayton before taking a 57-52 decision at home 28 days later.
Clayton dropped another game to Southeast Raleigh right after the most recent defeat against Garner, but has since reeled off eight consecutive wins, including ones over Fuquay-Varina and South Garner to reach the tournament final.
Garner dropped a 64-59 contest at Cleveland on Feb. 7 — its lone conference loss — and has since won five straight. The last two, against Corinth Holders and Southeast Raleigh (49-46), were in this tournament.
Round three between the two schools could wind up being worth the wait.
