Regular readers in this space will note that I didn’t post the Monday schedule dump. Life happened at an alarmingly consistent rate and it fell through the cracks. My bad.

Down the stretch in basketball
We’re coming to the end of the road for regular season play for our area basketball teams. Let’s see where we are:
CAP 8A
Leesville Road and Broughton have the inside track for the CAP 8A crown, and two meet on Thursday night with the title likely in the balance.
Greater Neuse River 7A
Clayton knocked off Garner last night, 48-43, to toss a rather large wrench into the last week of conference play. Garner, Southeast Raleigh, South Garner and Clayton are all tied in the loss column. It’s a furious run to the finish.
By the way, our friends at HighSchool OT project both Cleveland and Clayton to make the 7A postseason ($).
Carolina Pines 6A
West Johnston is currently pegged as the No. 7 seed in the upcoming 6A playoffs, but there’s a little work to be done before then. Four games left to hang on to that half-game lead – one of which is against Harnett Central on Feb. 18.
Three Rivers 4A
The Pam Pack is stalking a Three Rivers 4A title, but a home date tonight with SouthWest Edgecombe is a key part of that quest.
North Johnston is currently one of the “first five out” in the HighSchool OT projections, so a win or two in its last five league games would help that cause a bit.
Swine Valley 2A/3A
Goldsboro’s trip to Warsaw tomorrow night is going to go a long way to sorting out this conference race. By the way, Princeton is currently slated to be in the field as one of the “last five in.”
Quad County 2A/3A/4A
These folks have been hit particularly hard by winter weather, and as a result, have a slew of games to make up.
Carolina 1A
It’s a three-way battle atop the Carolina 1A standings, and the fact that fourth-place Neuse Charter projects as a seven seed speaks to the depth of this league.
Girls
CAP 8A
Corinth Holders is locked in a tussle with Wakefield and Leesville Road for the CAP 8A title, and the Pirates split with both schools. The last two games are against Enloe and Millbrook, so an 11-3 finish seems likely.
Greater Neuse River 7A
South Garner and Southeast Raleigh have pulled away from the field in the Greater Neuse River 7A. Cleveland and Clayton are still in the hunt for postseason berths, however.
Carolina Pines 6A
West Johnston is a game up on Southern Lee, but the Cavaliers won the first meeting last month. The two teams meet again in Benson on Feb. 19.
Three Rivers 4A
North Johnston visits Eastern Wayne Wednesday night in a game that will either tighten up the Three Rivers 4A race — or settle it altogether.
Swine Valley 2A/3A
Amazingly enough, the girls’ standings are a mirror image of how the boys’ table looks. That’s hard to do.
Quad County 2A/3A/4A
Halfway through the league slate, Nash Central appears to be the class of the QC.
